redstamp-faq1What is Jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices bypassing Apple’s official distribution mechanism, the App Store. Once jailbroken, iPhone and iPod Touch users are able to download many third party applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia, Icy, Installer (no longer in service), and iDA.

What is the difference between Jailbreaking and Unlocking?

Jailbreaking is distinct from unlocking, which is the process by which a mobile device is made compatible with telephone networks it was not specifically licensed to be used with. For example, you can unlock an iPhone so that it may be used with T-Mobile instead of AT&T.

Will Jailbreaking void my warranty?

Technically, yes. Apple claims that jailbreaking their devices does go against your warranty, however, there is absolutely no way for them to tell if your device has been jailbroken unless you show or tell them that it is. Although, if you’re going to take your device in to an AT&T store or Apple store, all you need to do is just restore it to factory settings with iTunes and make sure you set it up as a new device, that way it seems (and is) good as new.

How do I Jailbreak my iPhone/iPod Touch?

I have several videos on my YouTube channel on how to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch. Which one you use depends on what firmware your device is running. If you want to know what firmware you are on, simply open Settings on the device then go to: General>About>Version. Once you know what firmware you’re on that’s when you go through my videos and see which one fits you.

I have my device Jailbroken now what can I do?

Well once you reach this point there are many things you can do which include getting themes,  mods, SSH (file access), getting games, getting App Store apps for free, the list goes on. Your iPhone/iPod Touch is now 100 times better than it was before you jailbroke it. When you’re first starting off I suggest you go and take a look through some of my videos and see if any of the titles catch your attention. Some of the first things I highly recommend you learn about is Open SSH, adding sources to Cydia, Winterboard (app that lets you install themes), and basically just browse through some of the apps in Cydia and see what you like. Once you have a basic understanding of how Cydia, Icy, Installer, and/or iDA works you can check out some of the stuff that I have available on this site and my videos will give you great and easy to follow guides to make you become a more advanced iPhone or iPod Touch user.

I’m having problems after Jailbreaking, what do I do?

No service? WiFi Problems? These problems and many more will have only one fix, restoring your device. It’s the one sure way to fix these. You will need to plug your device up to the computer open iTunes and just hit the restore button. If your device was jailbroken you will have to rejailbreak it. If you are on a custom firmware and it’s giving you issues don’t do a shift click restore to the same custom firmware, that will most likely just cause the same problems. Just create (or download from a different site) a brand new custom firmware and restore to it. Now one more important thing, when you restore never back it up, and once it’s done restoring always set it up as a new device. And that will fix your problems.

How do i install cracked (free) apps on my iPhone/iPod Touch?

Ty Moss has an excellent page with a video tutorial on this subject. The tutorials are on his secret page is for. You can also install free applications straight from your device using Installous available in Cydia from the repo: http://cydia.hackulo.us. MobileInstallation must also be downloaded also available from that repo.

I’m having problems with cracked apps.

All of your .ipa files that you get errors with, whether it be when you’re syncing them or trying to open them, can be fixed by just dragging the app into iTunes again overwriting it then syncing it again. It’s that simple. Remember you must also have one official App Store app installed on your device so just download a free one. For .app files you need to make sure you are setting the permissions of the .app folder to 775. If the app still doesn’t work its probably not cracked so therefore it won’t work. If that does not work, try putting your device into Safe Mode using SBSettings (available in Cydia).

Customize doesn’t work.

Yes, I know this, and don’t think its just you because it doesn’t work for anyone if your on firmware 2.0 or higher. However, I have managed to figure out a way to get it to work but for some reason this only works with specific devices. Click HERE to watch the tutorial. If the previous video didn’t help you or you just want Customize to change the System Strings (slide to unlock, slide to power off, etc.) watch THIS video.

My apps are crashing and my music and videos not showing up in iPod?

The answer to this is restore. I don’t know why this happens and don’t know if anyone else has found out why either but you will have to restore your device. Follow what i say in the first problem on the pageIm having problems after Jailbreaking, what do I do?” and that will fix you right up. If it’s just your apps that keep crashing, it’s most likely due to lack of random access memory (RAM). To fix this, download a program from the App Store called FreeMemory for $0.99 and that should free up some memory for you (up to 20MB) so that your apps don’t crash.
