Apple TV Has Been Jailbroken! But No Apps Yet!

Not too long ago (just a moment ago) I told you Apple TV could be jailbroken using the SHAtter exploit. Yesterday, I heard that the device can be restored in iTunes, which meant the race to jailbreak Apple TV could begin. Now, 9to5Mac has just noted that an Apple TV jailbreak has been achieved, by none other than MuscleNerd himself.

MuscleNerd released this screenshot in the above image, As you can see, this Apple TV jailbreak isn’t ready to go even in Alpha yet (it’s basically three steps down from alpha. If anyone know what that is leave a comment and you MIGHT get a treat) nor can it run apps. But, it won’t be long until MuscleNerd puts together a public release.

Apple TV Can Be Restored in iTunes! It’s Asking to Be Jailbroken!

Apple TV shipments are making their way to those lucky few who pre-ordered as well as arriving into Apple store shelves around the US. This is allowing us to find out more about the device.

The most best discovery is that not only does the Apple TV come with a USB port, which allows you to connect the device to your computer, but it appears as a “iDevice” in iTunes, which you can restore yourself. At this point the Apple TV is asking to get jailbroken.

According to info received by TechFlash, jailbreakers have found a way to put the device in DFU Mode, and are trying to jailbreak the device right now.

TechGeec.com will let you know when a jailbreak is achieved.

Mobile Me Gallery Updated! Now Universal

The Mobile Me Gallery App just received a small but cool update.

It is now a universal app
It has fast app switching integrated
Retna display optimized
And you can view friends galleries without a Mobile Me subscription

Like I said small update but it is mostly news worthly because of the universal app part.

Now all we need it the Apple Store, Keynote Remote, and the Texas Hold’ Em app to be universal and then were good to go!

Tethering Support Added to iPad in iOS 4.2 Beta 2

The Beta 2 version of Apple’s iOS 4.2 software update brings a pretty cool new feature. The update for an undisclosed November release, adds Internet Tethering settings for iPads running iOS.

iPad owners will hopefully be able to tether their iDevice successfully by the time iOS 4.2 reaches its final version. According to 9to5Mac, the settings are currently only appearing for European carriers.

If Apple allows iOS 4.2 users to tether their iPad iPhone-style this would be great!

Don’t get too excited. The tethering settings may be removed in a beta version in the feature (remember Game Center on the iPhone 3G? It can happen any time).

Interesting Information About the New Apple TV

The people over at iFixit “demolished” the new Apple TV. They have managed to discover something interesting about Apple’s new and improved device.

The new Apple TV comes with 8 GB of internal storage. Apple’s epic fail to promote this before the release of the device made me actually not buy it because I wanted some type of internal storage, but I am now buying it because of this. This also means that hackers will be able to do some type of Cydia hackie do. It is obvious Apple didn’t tell us this due to the fact that Apple’s main focus on the product was on wireless steaming.

The Apple TV has 256 MB of RAM. This is the same as the iPad and iPod touch 4G, but less than the iPhone 4′s 512 MB.

New and First Google Voice App is Out!

A third-party Google Voice app has just hit the App Store. GV Connect by Andreas Amann is a native app that is able to interact directly with Google Voice accounts and features.

GV Connect features:

• Place calls using your Google Voice number rather than your mobile number – enter number directly, select a contact from your device’s contacts, or call back any number in your history.
• Send and receive text messages (SMS) from your Google Voice number.
• Listen to voicemails and recorded conversations right on your device (allowing you to pause, rewind, or fast forward to any point within the message) – voicemails will also show the transcription of the message when available.
• Mark messages as starred, attach notes to conversations, block/unblock senders, or delete conversations.
• Easily search in your history by contact, message, or note.
• Messages are stored on your device for offline access.
• Composing notes and text messages can be done in landscape mode.
• Quickly change various Google Voice account settings (call forwarding, do-not-disturb, message notifications, …) directly from within the application.
• Automatic checking for new messages while the application is active.
• Direct access to your device’s contacts without needing to synchronize them with Google
• All communication is done with the Google Voice website directly, no need to hand over your account information to a third-party.
• Full support for fast app switching in iOS4 and high-resolution graphics for retina displays.

GV Connect is available in the App Store now for $2.99.

Does this indicate that the revised App Store approval guidelines have paved the way for Google Voice apps — or even an official one directly from Google — to make their way to the App Store? And, does this mean that Sean Kovacs’ GV Mobile will have a chance to make its way back from getting the axe? We’ll just have to see, but it looks very promising.

Offcial Twitter App Goes Universal Finally!

Great news, Twitter fans! The official Twitter application, which we’ve known and loved on our iPhone handsets for some time now, has just gone universal. A recent update (version 3.1, which was released today) means iPad owners can now use the app on their 9.7″ iDevices.

And, as you can see from the screenshots below, the familiar app looks markedly different on the iPad. First up, it takes advantage of the iPad’s screen brilliantly. Twitter on the iPad displays your timeline in the center of the screen, adding helpful lists at the side when in landscape mode. By tapping on any tweet, related content will open in the foreground. By sliding panels, you can swiftly navigate through this content.

In addition to this, users can pinch on a tweet to reveal information and further actions. A two finger drag opens up a list of reply options. These new features are simple but very helpful, and we’re sure you’ll really appreciate them.

So, the ultimate question: was Twitter’s universality something worth waiting for? In my opinion, yes, it was. And, let’s not forget this is a free application, so you have no excuse not to download it!

Twitter (for iPhone and iPad) is available now in the App Store for free! Let us know your thoughts on the app in the comments box at the bottom of this article.

Questions for Our Community

Hi guys! This is Conner from TechGeec.com!!! I’m the Senior Editor here and I have some questions to ask you but don’t really know how to ask them (if that makes sense) so I thought it would be a good idea to make posts every once a while to ask you guys questions. But first off you guys might not realize it but I read every comment you guys leave. And I try my hardest to get back to all of them. So if you leave a comment I will see it and will try my most hardest to get back to you. Also at the end of all of my posts I say “if you have any questions email me at conner@techgeec.com” feel free to do that. I will get back to you. I get maybe one email a day and it’s from David so it’s not like I’m that busy.

Enough of me talking. Let me ask some questions.

1. What would you like to be done differently on the site? This can be our writing style or the layout of ten site or really anything.

2. What new sections would you like to be seen to the site? Were trying to add a 24/7 chat room so things along the line of that.

3. What app would you like to be given away in the next giveaway? Basically leave a comment with what app you would like to see given away.

4. Would you be interested in having an “Apps Gone Free” section on the site where we list paid apps that have gone free for the day?

I’m sure I missed something but if you have anything else you would like to add just leave a comment or email me at conner@techgeec.com or email David at contact@techgeec.com. Also make sure to follow the site on Twitter @TechGeec and to follow me on Twitter @connerowen we both tweet on tech updates so if you like tech follow us! We Farm Released and Full Review

So at midnight (PST) ngmoco:) relleased it “sequal” to We Rule and the Farmville killer “We Farm.” So lets get into my review.

Farmville has only just appeared on the iPhone, and ngmoco is already testing the waters with their own farming sim, We Farm. If you thought We Rule was the developer’s answer to the Facebook farming phenomenon, you were only half right.

Everything about We Farm should be immediately familiar to We Rule fans; from the plot of land you are originally assigned, to the farms (called gardens) you have to maintain, to the Gro (think Mojo) you have to purchase to speed up various processes, there is little initial difference between the two games.

The differences become more apparent as you play through the tutorial which quickly progresses you to a level 6 farmer. Building a coop allows you to raise chickens (and later ducks and, I assume, other fowl as you progress in the game) which you must pet to keep happy. This latter innovation brings a simple type of Tamagochi pet management to We Farm, but it remains to be seen if this is developed at later levels in the game. I’m currently building some of the other farm areas available during the early stages in the game, so it remains to be seen what other new features We Farm will surprise me with.

The overall presentation of We Farm is, if you can believe it, even more cartoonish and exaggerated than We Rule, and the sound effects and music complement this approach perfectly, with frequent interludes of hayseed, down home banjos and harmonicas. It definitely has its charms, but will fans of We Rule want to build a similar mini-society in a similar way? The two games are very much alike.

We Farm is available on all of your iDevices.

Personally I love We Rule and can not wait to level up on We Farm. If you want to add me email me at conner@techgeec.com and I’ll give you my username so we can be friends. I do not want to give it out here because I really don’t want spammers.
