What is Jailbreaking?

Jailbreaking is a process that allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices bypassing Apple’s official distribution mechanism, the App Store. Once jailbroken, iPhone and iPod Touch users are able to download many third party applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia, Icy, Installer (no longer in service), and iDA.

What is the difference between Jailbreaking and Unlocking?

Jailbreaking is distinct from unlocking, which is the process by which a mobile device is made compatible with telephone networks it was not specifically licensed to be used with. For example, you can unlock an iPhone so that it may be used with T-Mobile instead of AT&T.

Is Jailbreaking illegal?

No.

Will Jailbreaking void my warranty?

Technically, yes. Apple claims that jailbreaking their devices does go against your warranty, however, there is absolutely no way for them to tell if your device has been jailbroken unless you show or tell them that it is. Although, if you’re going to take your device in to an AT&T store or Apple store, all you need to do is just restore it to factory settings with iTunes and make sure you set it up as a new device, that way it seems (and is) good as new.

How do I Jailbreak my iPhone/iPod Touch?

I have several videos on my YouTube channel on how to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch. Which one you use depends on what firmware your device is running. If you want to know what firmware you are on, simply open Settings on the device then go to: General>About>Version. Once you know what firmware you’re on that’s when you go through my videos and see which one fits you.
