revo uninstaller

Completely Uninstall Programs on Windows

Revo Uninstaller, developed by VS Revo Group, is a tool that allows you to completely uninstall a program from Windows. Often when uninstalling programs through the typical uninstaller, many registry files and directories are left behind. Over time these left over and useless files bog down your computer. By using a tool like Revo Uninstaller, it will uninstall the program like normal and then scan the computer for any additional files that were not removed. It allows you to select which files to keep and which to delete.

You can purchase the full version of Revo Uninstaller but I recommend just downloading the free version. It will still scan for leftovers after the standard uninstall, it includes eight additional cleaning tools, and free tech support is also included. There’s some nice features that come packed with the Pro version but nothing that I feel is worth the $20 – $40 price tag.

You can download Revo Uninstaller by clicking HERE.

display recorder

Display Recorder – Record iPhone, iPod touch, iPad Screen in HD with Audio

Display Recorder, developed by Ryan Petrich and available for $4.99 from the Cydia Store, allows you to record your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad’s display. This app is terrific if you want to record your device’s display for a YouTube video, send a video of your recorded display to a friend, or record a video and download it to your computer so that you can edit it, such as what we use it for.

Display Recorder records directly to H.264 or MJPG/AVI for amazing HD quality, optionally records microphone audio, features on-device YouTube uploading, adjustable framerate and quality settings, hardware accelerated video encoding (meaning new devices will encode recordings faster than older devices), and includes a web site to manage your recordings. Simply enter the web server address (in the format of http://IPaddress:port) that’s displayed at the bottom of the app into your web browser.

Steps (once your iPhone is jailbroken):
1. Open Cydia
2. Search for “Display Recorder”
3. Download the app.
4. Congratulations! Display Recorder should now be installed on your device.

Question:
What will you do with your screen recordings? If you upload them to YouTube, send us the link!

startdial

StartDial – Open the iPhone’s Phone App to a Specific Page Every Time

StartDial, developed by FilippoBiga and available for free from the BigBoss repository in Cydia, allows you to start your Phone app on the page of your choice (Favorites, Recents, Contacts, Keypad, or Voicemail). If, for instance, you typically use the keypad, you can set your start page as Keypad and every time you open the Phone app the Keypad page will open. If you prefer to select phone numbers from your contact list, you can set the start page to Contacts. In addition, you have the option to disable the voicemail page; a reasonable option for those security concerned users.

Steps (once your iPhone is jailbroken):
1. Open Cydia
2. Search for “StartDial”
3. Download the tweak and when prompted by Cydia, respring your iPhone.
4. Congratulations! StartDial should now be installed on your device.

How to remove StartDial:
1. Open Cydia
2. Search for “StartDial”
3. In the upper right-hand corner, select the “Modify” button.
4. When asked to “Reinstall” or “Remove”, select “Remove”
5. When prompted by Cydia, respring your iPhone.
6. Once the iPhone has resprung, StartDial should no longer be present.

Question:
What page in the Phone app do you use most often?

Boxcar CEO Q&A

I recently emailed the CEO of your guys favorite app of all time, Angry Birds! I’m just kidding, I emailed the CEO of Boxcar. His name is Jonathan George and I was very fortunate to get a response from him. I asked him a few questions that are listed below and he was nice enough to answer them for me. Hope you guys enjoy.

1.) Why did you want to start Boxcar?

I started Boxcar on a whim in June 2009.  Push notifications had just been released with iOS 3.0 and I had missed a direct message on Twitter from someone.  I thought: it’d have been awesome to receive that via a push notification.  A few hours later I had a small prototype built.  I started it that Friday evening and submitted it to Apple two days later.  The first version only opened 2 Twitter clients and you could use it with just one Twitter account.  Even though it was ugly, slow and tiny, it worked.  It brought a new experience to something that badly needed an overhaul. It’s changed a lot since that first launch.

2.) Why is Boxcar free? I could see paying $10 for this useful app.

Boxcar is free because we want as many people to use Boxcar as possible.  Without users, Boxcar wouldn’t be what it is today.  We’ll be experimenting with new revenue models early next year, but Boxcar will always be free to download. Of course, if you love Boxcar, you can help support us by using in app purchase to disable the ads.

3.) Are their any big future updates coming to the app you can tell us?

We have several top secret projects underway that may see the light of day, but nothing that we can discuss right now.

4.) When did Boxcar start becoming “big?”

I always thought of Boxcar as being “small” up until Jeff, Josh and Conor joined me a few months ago.  Boxcar was a side project until they joined in.  If something needed to be done, I’d do it.  Now when I wake up in the morning, there is already more done than I would have done in a single day before.

That’s probably the biggest defining moment, even though there are others. For example, I used to tell myself “Oh, someday Twitter will introduce push”.  And then Twitter did introduce push, but people kept on using Boxcar for Twitter push notifications.  Why?  Because we’re great at it.  It’s what we do.  And at that point you realize you’ve built something that people love.

5.) What do you think when you see your app reviewed on a big tech website or talked about on YouTube?

It’s amazing, really.  I still get ridiculously excited anytime I see *anyone* write an article about Boxcar.  I always e-mail any press we get to my mom and dad to share with them.

You guys can contact Jonathan at jonathan@boxcar.io

And during our email conversations he said he takes pride in answering every email and will get back to you. I might not be right away but he will eventually get back.

We Farm Safari Review

If your an avid We Farm user you would know that ngmoco:) has been waiting for Apple approval to approve another new app to the “We” family. This time it moves your We Farm over to a new app called We Farm Safari. Now don’t worry. Your entire farm gets transferred, all you have to do is enter your Plus+ username and password.

Now the new app has all of the same features of your usual We Farm but if you use We Rule you know about realms which allows you to extend your kingdom into other land plots. Now this is where “Safari” comes into We Farm. We farms lets you extend into an Outback, Serengeti, Savannah, and the Outback. Each “Realms” has a new floor that is represented by the terrain in each biome. Your “Main Land” is now called The Homestead” now.

This app ads new building, crops, animals, and more.

This is brand new into the app store and is most importantly free!

If you need a friend to order from be sure to add connerowen (me) I always except all orders.<

iBooks Folders Coming Soon

Recently some people I believe at 9to5Mac we getting curious and emailed Steve Jobs and they basically said, “We love using iBooks to house all of our PDF’s and we thought it would be amazing to have the PDF’s in folders to stay organized.” and Steve replied “coming.”

Well now 9to5Mac reports the following:

“From looking at these Apple documents it appears that collections will be a button you tap on the iBooks toolbar that brings up a list of all your collections but it also appears there will be ‘collections’ actually sitting on your bookshelf.

Also, you will now be able to take PDF’s you have stored in iBooks and e-mail them off to whomever you would like. Printing PDF’s via AirPrint will also come in this update which should be handy for many users. Apple will also be very clear to say that the printing and e-mailing of actual books is not happening.”

So basically this means that Apple wouldn’t have to release a software update to have folders in iBooks. Since iBooks is an app in the App Store all we would need is just a small app update.

Pulse Goes Free

I wouldn’t really say friend but Cristina Cordova, Vice President of Business Development at Alphonso Labs emailed me stating that Pulse Mini and Pulse News Reader would be going free on all devices across all platforms. She attached a PDF that explained why.

All the PDF said was that the college project is so successful that they have made enough money on it and decided to make it free forever.

Good think to because I was just about to buy it!

boxee box release 2

Boxee Box Has Been Released – Buy Yours Now

For those who have never heard of the computer software, Boxee, it’s a free program that brings all of your favorite shows that are available online all to one place where you can manage what shows you want to watch now, watch later, or never watch at all. It takes the time you spend searching for your favorite TV shows online out of the equation and it does the work for you. You tell it what you watch, it finds it for you (so long as the TV show has episodes online).

Boxee just recently (November 10, 2010) released what I feel to be the missing link in the “TV box” line. In this day and age when the internet is at the center of almost all of our lives and when almost everything is available online, not one company has yet to release a product that allows the consumer to watch TV shows that are online on their TVs – until now.

The Boxee Box by D-Link is a product that will most likely cause many TV service providers to lose business. If all of the shows that you watch on your TV are available online, then there is absolutely no need for you to spend the money for cable or satellite when you can use Boxee for free. The Boxee Box essentially takes everything from their computer application to your TV, all through a small “box”.

Many might ask themselves, “I’m not going to cancel my service with my cable/satellite provider because I still want to watch live TV and I have a DVR to record all my shows so why would I need a Boxee Box?” That’s a fantastic and extremely easy question to answer. I recently switched from Dish Network to DirecTV and while all of my favorite shows recorded onto the Dish Network DVR, there was no way for

me to transfer those episodes to a computer or to the new DirecTV DVR. I didn’t have the time to watch my recorded shows which resulted in me missing a whole week worth of television shows. Some shows have story lines which carry over to the following week’s episode and I didn’t want to be lost when that time came around. Luckily all of the TV shows I watch are available online. So instead of endlessly searching on the web for the episodes I missed, I went onto Boxee and all of the episodes were right there waiting for me in my queue.

But how does the Boxee Box compare to other TV “boxes” such as the new Apple TV, Google TV, or Roku? You’ll have to wait for our review of the Boxee Box coming in December.

You can pick up your own Boxee Box at Amazon.com for a list price of $229.99. As of November 14, however, Amazon is offering a 13% discount making the price $199.99. If you use Boxee of you already have a Boxee Box, let us know what you think about it my leaving us a comment below this article.
