Verizon to Offer $30 Unlimited Data Plan for iPhone 4

The Wall Street Journal recently reported their conversation with Verizon Wireless COO and soon-to-be CEO, Lowell McAdam, regarding the iPhone 4 data plan:

“I’m not going to shoot myself in the foot,” he said. Not offering an unlimited plan would put up a barrier for customers who might otherwise switch from AT&T, he said. The country’s No. 2 carrier still has millions of subscribers grandfathered into unlimited plans they signed up for before AT&T switched to tiered pricing last summer.

But you’d better act fast. Speaking later Tuesday morning, Mr. McAdam said the iPhone unlimited plan will be a temporary offer and that the carrier will follow AT&T’s move to tiered pricing in the not too distant future.

Asthe iPhone 4′s data plan pricing is now confirmed, TechGeec will have full coverage of Verizon’s iPhone which will be released February 10.

New Motorola Products (ATRIX, CLIQ 2, XOOM)

Motorola has unveiled three new amazing products at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show, two of which are a phone, the other a tablet.

The new Motorola ATRIX features a dual-core processor each at 1GHz, 1GB of RAM, 960×540 resolution, 24-bit color, 16GB internal, 32GB microSD expansion, 802.11n WiFi connectivity, 11m thickness, and a front-facing camera. What makes the ATRIX truly unique, however, is it’s ability to be docked in the new Motorola HD dock which is almost identical to a laptop but without any components (CPU, RAM, motherboard, etc.). The phone powers the entire dock and it gives the user the ability to control the phone using a laptop-like accessory. This dock is also capable of running the full version of FireFox as well as a virtual Windows 7 environment.

The Motorola CLIQ 2 retains a similar design to the original CLIQ, including the physical keyboard and the MOTOBLUR UI. Also featuring Android 2.2, a 3.7″ display and a 5MP camera with dual LED flash.

Lastly, Motorola’s new tablet, the XOOM, features a healthy-sized 10.1-inch capacitive screen with a very high resolution of 1280×800, a 5MP HD front-facing camera, and the mandatory dual-core ARM-based Tegra 2 chipset, which will allow for full 1080p HD video playback. What is attracting all the buzz about the XOOM, however, is that it is the first tablet to run Google’s tablet-optimized Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. This will bring a lot more functionality to the device, as all the core apps will be redesigned so as to allow the user to take full advantage of the much greater screen size, compared to what you get on a smartphone running, for example, Android 2.2. In addition, the tablet will feature all the known goodies that we love like an accelerometer, gyroscope and of course, Adobe Flash 10.1 Player support.

Verizon iPhone Coming January 11

Verizon has just sent out invitations for a keynote address to be held in New York City Tuesday, January 11th at 11:00 A.M. The topic of the event is currently unknown at the moment but the usual speculation of this is the Verizon iPhone. Now every event most people always assume the Verizon iPhone and it is getting old, but this time it is the real deal. This is why:

1. AppAdvice.com Claims:

Quote (via AppAdvice):

“More precisely, Verizon invited some unusual people to the event, like MG Siegler from Techcrunch, a self-proclaimed Apple Fanboy, as well as Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, who exclusively covers Apple news. Both are not usually invited for Verizon events. Then, we should also point out that Gizmodo hasn’t been invited, which is unprecedented for a Verizon event according to them. They believe this might have something to do with the fact that they’re persona non grata over at Apple ever since they leaked the iPhone 4.”

2. Verizon did not invite Gizmodo, now Gizmodo is always invited to all Verizon Keynotes, but they are now banned from Apple Events ever since they got the leaked iPhone 4, and they were not invited this time so that makes us lead that this event is focused on Apple.

3. The WSJ Reported:

Quote (via The Wall Street Journal):

Breaking: We’ve confirmed that Verizon will announce on Tuesday that the iPhone is coming to its network”

Another “clue” that we haven’t figured out is that it will be announces at 1/11/11 at 11:00 A.M. If you can figure out the clue, email me at conner@techgeec.com

So this all leads up to believe that their is a 90% chance that their will be a Verizon iPhone announce.

Apple to Ship 21 Million iPhones Q1 2011 – CDMA

Sources with Foxconn claim that Apple has raised it’s global shipment goal for the first quarter of next year from 19 million iPhones to 20-21 million.

The first-quarter shipment goal for WCDMA iPhones has been adjusted from 13 million units to 14-15 million units, the sources said. The shipment goal for CDMA iPhones, which will be launched in North America and Asia Pacific in the first quarter, is set at 5-6 million units, the sources added.

The sources also indicate that the estimated total iPhone sales in Q4 of 2010 are 15.5 million bringing the total iPhone sales of 2010 to 47 million.

Currently, Foxconn is the only maker of WCDMA iPhones, while Foxconn and Pegatron Technology have equally shared the production volume for the CDMA version, the sources noted.

Rumors are continuously emerging about a CDMA iPhone 4 being released early next year. While these sources claim that Verizon will not be the exclusive CDMA carrier of the iPhone internationally, they suggest nothing about them being the sole carrier in the U.S. which could lead to a significant dip in sales for Verizon’s U.S. CDMA competitor, Sprint.

Editor’s Opinion: Will Apple be launching this new version of the iPhone at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show? While many sources claim the CDMA iPhone will be launched early January, few suggest it will be at the CES which Apple will not be attending. However, Verizon’s CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, is scheduled for a keynote at the CES on January 6 where they are rumored to announce new phones. I’ve received numerous questions asking if the iPhone will be launched at the CES and my gut feeling is, unfortunately, no. Of course, being a Verizon customer and an iPhone admirer, I would love to see the CDMA iPhone launched by Seidenberg in a little more than a week but I don’t see it happening. With regards to the iPhone, Apple has been the only company to have conferences, not even AT&T has had one regarding the iPhone. So if this rumored CDMA iPhone will simply be a CDMA-compatible iPhone 4, I believe there’s a chance of it’s announcement at the CES 2011. On the other hand if it will be a whole new design, I have much doubt that it will be announced by Verizon. For those who want an easier-to-follow opinion, 30% chance not being announced at the CES 2011, 45% chance Apple will announce it sometime in Q1 2011, 25% chance we won’t be seeing a CDMA iPhone in 2011.

If, however, the CDMA iPhone will be launched, TechGeec.com will have complete coverage on it.

Verizon iPhone Proof?

Above is an image of the almost non-fiction “Verizon iPhone” posted by ÜberGizmo. You can see it’s a white iPhone 4 with no SIM card slot on the right side, no area for the antenna, and it’s displaying the Verizon Carrier setting. This would be, by no means, difficult to Photoshop. Third party companies already sell white iPhone 4 parts, the phone could be jailbroken making the carrier display “Verizon”, and Photoshop could be used to remove the SIM card slot and antenna.

We’ll see what’s to come in the months ahead. Leave your comments below of what you think about the Verizon iPhone. Is it a myth, will it come early next year, or will it never come at all? Fill us in on what you’re thinking.

Be sure to follow @TechGeec on Twitter to receive live, up-to-date updates on the Verizon iPhone.

Verizon iPhone Shipping in December

Pegatron Technology has been identified as manufacturer of the new model CDMA iPhone, and a report in Digitimes tells us that company expects to ship 10 million of these things next year.

More than this, Pegatron is ramping up its manufacturing base for these things, installing new machinery and hiring a several legions of new employees (10,000, in fact) to make the Apple mobiles.

Pegatron boss Jason Chang wouldn’t say anything about Apple, but was seen to say that the staff increase was mainly “to handle growing smartphone business”, and to predict strong revenues in 2011.

Pegatron is also reportedly attempting to secure manufacturing orders for MacBooks and iPads.

The big news? Pegatron will start shipping the CDMA iPhone 4 in December…

CDMA iPhone Will be Ready by Early 2011 [UPDATED]

Please read entire post before reading this update.

When Verizon President and COO, Lowell McAdam, was asked to comment about the report from The Wall Street Journal, McAdam replied,

It’s one of those things that rolls out every few weeks whether there’s a basis for it or not. I can’t give you any insights, but I think Apple is the one that has to make that announcement. What I’ve always said is I expect at some point in time our business interests are going to align. I think things like LTE are another great reason why they’d want a device or tablet on that network. But I don’t have anything to say today about timing.

Despite the remarks, rumors of a CDMA iPhone arriving in early 2011 have persisted.

These rumors of a Verizon iPhone have been coming since it’s debut in 2007 but the “rumors” seem to have more and more “proof” behind them.

On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal quoted “people briefed by Apple,” as saying the new iPhone,

would be similar in design to the iphone 4 currently sold by AT&T Inc.,

…but it would be using CDMA technology, the same technology both Verizon and Sprint use. They also stated that,

The phone, for which Qualcomm Inc. is providing a key chip, is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, according to the same people.

Also on Wednesday, Shaw Wu, an analyst for Kaufman Bros., wrote:

in our checks with the industry and supply chain sources, we have picked up indication of development and progress on new form factor iPhones.

Representatives from Verizon, Qualcomm, and Apple all declined to comment on the issue, however, just a few weeks ago, Verizon CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, said no one should expect the iPhone on Verizon any time soon. The one and only reason why this statement would be a lie, is so that Apple’s fourth quarter earning do not drastically drop as people await the release of the new iPhone. This occurred when the iPhone 4 prototype was discovered. Consumers stopped buying the iPhone 3GS and instead waited for the iPhone 4 to be released which in turn drastically dropped Apple’s quarter earnings.

The Journal also stated that Apple,

plans to begin mass producing a new iPhone by the end of 2010 that would allow Verizon Wireless to sell the smart phone early next year, said people briefed by Apple.

Apple is also developing a new iPhone model, said people briefed on the matter. One person familiar with the new iPhone plan said the fifth-generation iPhone will be a different form factor from those that are currently available. It was unclear how soon that version will be available to Verizon.

Another interesting note that many websites overlook, is that Verizon’s CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, is scheduled to give the main keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, 2011, which may very well be where the announcement for the Verizon iPhone occurs.

Verizon CEO: iPhone Not Coming Any Time Soon

Today, Verizon CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, announced that the iPhone will not be coming to Verizon until it’s 4G (fourth-generation) cellular network is 100% up and running.

Thursday, Seidenberg said he hopes Apple will offer the phone on the carrier’s 4G, or LTE network, which it is just starting to roll out later this year in a few dozen cities, and will not be completely ready until 2012, the same year Apple’s and AT&T’s exclusivity contract  expires.

Seidneberg announced,

We don’t feel like we have an iPhone deficit. We would love to carry it when we get there, but we have to earn it.

I think 4G will accelerate the process, and any other decisions Apple makes would be fine with us. Hopefully, at some point Apple will get with the program.

However, as we posted September 22, analysts have claimed that Apple’s overseas manufacturers will begin building CDMA iPhones for Verizon Wireless this December. CDMA is the cellular technology both Verizon and Sprint currently use, while AT&T uses SIM cards. If these reports are true, it is said that Apple will have at leas 3 million CDMA iPhones by January 1, 2011.

Apple Planning to Produce CDMA iPhones in December

According to Jeffery Fidacaro, an analysts with Susquehanna Financial Group, several people within Apple’s overseas factories and supply chain report that the company will begin assembling CDMA iPhones in December. We’ve previously heard rumors that a CDMA iPhone will be released in January of 2011. If Apple truly does plan on assembling it’s first batch of CDMA phones in December, it is said that they’ll have produced at least 3 million units by January 1.

Even though this may be exiting news for many people, it should be taken lightly. Earlier this year, before the iPad was announced, Fidacaro projected the device would include a 4200RPM spinning hard drive (which it doesn’t) as well as an Intel Atom mobile processor (again, which it doesn’t).
