[BREAKING] Verizon iPhone 4 Coming Febuary 3

Verizon concluded their event held on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, where they announced that the iPhone 4 would be available on their CDMA network. The iPhone is the iPhone 4, however, the breaks in the aluminum siding for the antenna seem to have been rearranged – possibly to address the antennagate issue.

The Verizon iPhone 4 will cost $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version with the capability of it acting as a mobile hotspot for up to 5 additional devices. It is availalbe for pre-order for existing Verizon customers on February 3 and for the general public on February 10 online and in Verizon and Apple stores. Unfotunately it won’t be running on Verizon’s new incredibly fast 4G LTE network. Instead, it will run on 3G, although, being as how a new iPhone will be announced around June, that one might have the capability of running on the 4G LTE network. Other than those new facts, it will have the same features/looks as the current iPhone 4.

Verizon iPhone Proof?

Above is an image of the almost non-fiction “Verizon iPhone” posted by ÜberGizmo. You can see it’s a white iPhone 4 with no SIM card slot on the right side, no area for the antenna, and it’s displaying the Verizon Carrier setting. This would be, by no means, difficult to Photoshop. Third party companies already sell white iPhone 4 parts, the phone could be jailbroken making the carrier display “Verizon”, and Photoshop could be used to remove the SIM card slot and antenna.

CDMA iPhone Will be Ready by Early 2011 [UPDATED]

When Verizon President and COO, Lowell McAdam, was asked to comment about the report from The Wall Street Journal, McAdam replied,

It’s one of those things that rolls out every few weeks whether there’s a basis for it or not. I can’t give you any insights, but I think Apple is the one that has to make that announcement. What I’ve always said is I expect at some point in time our business interests are going to align. I think things like LTE are another great reason why they’d want a device or tablet on that network. But I don’t have anything to say today about timing.

Despite the remarks, rumors of a CDMA iPhone arriving in early 2011 have persisted.

These rumors of a Verizon iPhone have been coming since it’s debut in 2007 but the “rumors” seem to have more and more “proof” behind them.

On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal quoted “people briefed by Apple,” as saying the new iPhone,

would be similar in design to the iphone 4 currently sold by AT&T Inc.,

…but it would be using CDMA technology, the same technology both Verizon and Sprint use. They also stated that,

The phone, for which Qualcomm Inc. is providing a key chip, is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, according to the same people.

Also on Wednesday, Shaw Wu, an analyst for Kaufman Bros., wrote:

in our checks with the industry and supply chain sources, we have picked up indication of development and progress on new form factor iPhones.

Representatives from Verizon, Qualcomm, and Apple all declined to comment on the issue, however, just a few weeks ago, Verizon CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, said no one should expect the iPhone on Verizon any time soon. The one and only reason why this statement would be a lie, is so that Apple’s fourth quarter earning do not drastically drop as people await the release of the new iPhone. This occurred when the iPhone 4 prototype was discovered. Consumers stopped buying the iPhone 3GS and instead waited for the iPhone 4 to be released which in turn drastically dropped Apple’s quarter earnings.

The Journal also stated that Apple,

plans to begin mass producing a new iPhone by the end of 2010 that would allow Verizon Wireless to sell the smart phone early next year, said people briefed by Apple.

Apple is also developing a new iPhone model, said people briefed on the matter. One person familiar with the new iPhone plan said the fifth-generation iPhone will be a different form factor from those that are currently available. It was unclear how soon that version will be available to Verizon.

Another interesting note that many websites overlook, is that Verizon’s CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, is scheduled to give the main keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, 2011, which may very well be where the announcement for the Verizon iPhone occurs.

Verizon iPhone Likely to Come in January 2011

Recently there have been numerous rumors about the new iPhone that’s supposed to be announced in 2011. The reason why TechGeec hasn’t reported any of these rumors are because they’re still just rumors and we’ve been hearing rumors about a Verizon iPhone for the past three years since the original iPhone came out. But now it seems as if our hopes for this new iPhone might be coming true.

To start off, Verizon Wireless (United States) uses CMDA technology to store information for their phones unlike AT&T’s and T-Mobile’s SIM cards. CDMA technology requires absolutely no cards of any sort. All the information is stored by the cellular company (in this case Verizon Wireless).

John Gruber, a reliable source for Apple “rumors”, announced recently that the CDMA iPhone (again, it doesn’t have to be for Verizon, it can also be released for Sprint who also uses CDMA) is codenamed N92. The current iPhone 4 was codenamed N89 before it was released. Gruber also reported that this CDMA iPhone is in the EVT (Engineering Verification Testing) phase. This phase limits Apple to testing one device inside their labs (or wherever Apple tests the phones before they go out into the wild). The next testing phase would be DVT (Design Verification Test) where Apple employees are allowed to take the phones out into the world to test them (this is the phase in which the iPhone 4 was in when it was “lost”).

Enhancing the rumor of the CDMA iPhone, TechCrunch’s Steve Cheney reported that Apple is ordering millions of CDMA chips from Qualcomm. Assuming Gruber was correct in his claim that Apple is in the EVT phase, then this would be the ideal time for Apple to purchase this many CDMA chips if the phone will be released/announced in January 2011.

Also this week, AT&T revealed in a filing to the SEC (U.S. Security and Exchange Commission) that it is warning it’s investors about possible negative effects when “exclusivity arrangements end” for popular smartphones and the only exclusive and popular smartphone for AT&T is the iPhone. This report does seem to help these rumors develop even more because huge companies would not risk upsetting their investors for no good reason unless they feel absolutely necessary.

The last strong addition to the 2011 CDMA iPhone is that Verizon Wireless’s CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, was selected to give the high-profile keynote address at the 2011 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas this coming January. The head of next years CES reportedly said that he’s “looking forward to hear about Verizon’s next generation of products”.

Now again, none of these facts point directly at a CDMA iPhone in 2011. I, myself, have doubts about this because Apple’s and AT&T’s exclusivity contract ends in 2012, not 2011. For a Verizon (or Sprint) iPhone to be released prior to the contract expiring would mean that either both companies would have to agree on breaking the contract (I don’t see why AT&T would do this) or that Apple would have to buy AT&T out of the contract. And what I find interesting is that no one has said anything about their exculisivity contract and how it ends in 2012. On the other hand, these rumors are pretty convincing and so I’m holding out on replacing my LG Voyager (Verizon) this year until a CDMA iPhone is released (or not released) this coming January.

How to Unlock the iPhone 4 for Use with Other Carriers (T-Mobile)

Unlocking an iPhone allows one to use it with an unsupported wireless carrier, for example, T-Mobile, in the U.S. The iPhone Dev-Team has released an unlock for the iPhone 4 using the baseband 01.59. If you don’t know what baseband your iPhone is currently on, you can use a program by iH8sn0w, called f0recast for both Mac and PC. You can download it HERE.

This unlock is incredibly simple and fast. Here’s the steps:

1. Jailbreak your iPhone 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cqy0sPoN8Z8
2. Open Cydia>Manage>Sources>Edit>Add
3. Add the source: http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com
4. Remove SIM card if haven’t already
5. Search for and install ultrasn0w
6. Reboot iPhone

If no signal is found, go to Settings and turn on Airplane Mode, then turn it off. If you still have no signal, reboot the iPhone. That’s it! Your iPhone 4 should now be successfully unlocked and using either T-Mobile or another unsupported carrier! Follow @TechGeec on Twitter for updates.

Apple Releases iPhone 4

I’m sorry that I have to resort to this, however, due to time constraints, the following article is provided by Boy Genius Report.

“Now stop me if you’ve seen this.” And so Steve Jobs announced the iPhone 4. Featuring stainless steel banding around the sides and a glass front, the iPhone 4’s “closest kin is a beautiful old camera.” It’s 24% thinner than the iPhone 3GS at 9.3mm thick, which Apple claims makes it the smallest smartphone on the planet or “a quarter thinner than something you didn’t think could get any thinner.” The three stainless steel bands surrounding the device that look very un-Apple actually serve two purposes: they add to the structural integrity of the device and double as antenna boosters. Smart.

The iPhone 4 has a 3.5″ display that has 78% the pixels of the iPad. With a resolution of 960×640 — or 4x the resolution of the first three iPhones — the iPhone 4 has four pixels where the other devices only had space for one for a total of 326 pixels per inch. Apple calls this “Retina Display” technology and says it translates to images and text so incredibly sharp that you’ll feel like you’re looking at a “finely printed book” instead of a mobile display. The display technology also means that apps will not have to be rescaled, so everything currently in the App Store will The display also has a 800:1 contrast ratio.

Moving on the the processor. Yes, indeedy, the iPhone 4 is powered by an Apple-designed A4 SoC. Apart from providing raw power, the A4 also sips juice from the battery as opposed to gulping it. This means the iPhone 4 is good for 7 hours of 3G talktime, 6 hours of browsing over 3G, 10 hours of browsing over Wi-Fi, 10 hours of video, 40 hours of music and 300 hours of standby. As expected, 802.11n Wi-Fi is included as is a quad-band HSDPA radio capable of 7.2Mbps down and 5.8Mbps up. The iPhone 4 also introduces a dual-mic system for noise cancellation and a gyroscope which combined with the accelerometer allow for 6-axis motion sensing.

The iPhone 4’s main camera weighs in at 5 megapixels. What makes it special, according to Apple, is its backside illuminated sensor. This allows more photons to bombard the sensor resulting in better low-light photos. A sole LED flash straddles the camera sensor. Digital zoom tops out at 5x, while video capture has been stepped up to shoot 720p at 30fps. The LED flash is fully functional when capturing videos.

Not included with iPhone 4 but to be available in the App Store for $4.99 is iMovie. iMovie for the iPhone is pretty much what you’d expect — that is if you were expecting a feature-rich mobile movie editing application that’s capable of manhandling 720p videos. You can rearrange clips by dragging them about; add in photos, transitions, titles, and music; and use geolocation so you’ll have no excuses for forgetting exactly where you were when you shot the film.

And then there’s the front-facing camera. It runs the open application FaceTime. Apple is currently working with wireless providers to bring forth bonafide 3G video calls, but as far as 2010 is concerned you’re stuck with Wi-Fi. If for some reason you don’t want the person you’re calling to see your mug — or perhaps you just want them to see what you’re looking at — you can switch from the front-facing camera to the 5MP camera on the back.

So when can you get the iPhone 4? If you live in the US, UK, Germany, France or Japan you’ll be able to pre-order it on June 15th and pick it up on the 24th. In the US, AT&T will sell the 16GB model for $199 and the 32GB model for $299 (both assuming a 2-year contract). At an unspecified time in July, 18 other countries — Canada included — will get the iPhone. Oh and how could we forget? The iPhone 4 will be available in both black and white.

Well, that’s pretty much everything new about the iPhone 4. Again, I apologize for not having the appropriate amount of time to write my own article, however, other things must be done before updating the site. Many US citizens with Verizon are extremely disappointed (as am I) that the new iPhone will only be available for AT&T. As previously stated, AT&T’s exclusivity contract expires in 2012 which means we will most likely not see a Verizon iPhone until the 6th generation is unveiled in 2012.

New Verizon iPhone Picture Leaked

There has been much news lately about an upcoming Verizon Wireless iPhone. Talks of the Verizon iPhone have been circulating since last year, if not longer, but it seems that this year they’re a bit different. The recent rumors/announcements have been more in depth and what Ivan Seidenberg, Verizon CEO, said about wanting Verizon to carry the new iPhone “4G” makes them seem much, much more convincing.

The picture to the right is a newly released photo of what is being called the new “Verizon iPhone”. As you can see, the back (probably) immediately reminds you of the iPad’s aluminum back. Also, the iPhone in the image also looks to be of a slightly different size than the current iPhone (some rumors have said that the new iPhone 4G will have a larger screen). The only thing that looks a bit “sketchy” as of now, is the quality of the image. The fuzziness could easily be hiding some “evidence” of fantastic PhotoShop-ing skills. It’s up to you, the reader, to decide whether or not this image is viable.

The only reason why Apple wouldn’t make a Verizon iPhone, would probably be that either their exclusivity contract with AT&T still hasn’t expired or that AT&T will pay them off. Verizon Wireless is currently the largest wireless provider in the United States. If Apple doesn’t release the new iPhone on Verizon, it will be an incredibly ignorant notion.

Verizon CEO Covets the iPhone

On Tuesday, April 6, 2010, the chief executive officer of Verizon, Ivan Seidenberg, told Apple that Verizon would like to carry the iPhone. He also referenced a report saying that Apple is indeed working on a CDMA-capable iPhone.

For those who don’t know, Code division multiple access (CDMA) is a channel access method utilized by various radio communication technologies. This is the type of technology that both Verizon and Sprint use in their phones, while carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T use SIM cards (the current iPhones require this technology).

Seindenberg did not say whether the iPhone will come to Verizon or not. He also quoted a report from late March that said a two new iPhones are in development, one being CDMA-capable. Hopefully this report is verifiable and Apple does agree to move the iPhone to Verizon. Talks of the iPhone moving to Verizon have been going on for a while now so nothing can be certain thus far.

It is interesting, however, that Seindenberg’s comments have come almost immediately before Apple’s preview to the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 this Thursday, April 8. The 4.0 OS will likely be released, however, not until early summer. Hopefully Verizon will finally get the iPhone and being the largest wireless provider in the United States, I don’t see why they wouldn’t.
